Introduction
The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department strives to improve all aspects of public health. In 2022, we formally established the Academic Health Department (AHD) at TLCHD to promote public health, bridge the gap between public health practice and academia, and train the next generation of public health professionals.
An AHD mirrors a “teaching hospital” affiliation found between hospitals and medical schools. AHD partnerships can enhance public health education, training, research, and service while offering a variety of benefits for the involved organizations and the community as a whole.
